Happy with service. Would be helpful if midwife could ring at the beginning of the day to give you a vague idea of arrival time so you did not have to wait in all day for them.

Had really friendly midwifes. But not as happy with consultant care due to no consistency or helpfulness.

Review of Dover Community Postnatal

Daily phones calls & visits were great. Breastfeeding support at home and ability to go to centre whenever I liked helped me keep going for first two weeks. Very pleased with all aspects of care. Amazed at support I've received.

Review of Folkestone Community Postnatal
28th November 2013

Despite breastfeeding my first baby for 15 months I would have crashed & burned second time around if not for the massive support from the midwifes who cover this area, particularly Liz Archibald & Rachel. By day 2 after the birth breastfeeding was excruciating & I was in floods of tears. I assumed I would be fine but memories of the pain of the first time combined with bloody nipples made me miserable. We panic bought bottles & formula but thankfully the midwifes picked up on the fact I needed help & spent hours with me getting me through it. I was totally supported & given advice on 'aids' available to help me through the pain & give my nipples a chance to heal, which they do very quickly. I used nipple shields, to keep baby directly off my super sensitive skin & nipple protectors, which kept fabric off them when they were bloody & felt like daggers. I honestly didn't know these things existed & without them would have given up. I used them for about 3 or 4 days then was able to put baby back on without them. 3 weeks in I'm doing fine, although it still hurts when baby latches on. All the books say 'if it hurts you're doing it wrong'. I say, not necessarily as my pain is intense on the initial latch but then disappears. My skin/nipples are simply really sensitive. The support I received from my midwife was absolutely key to me still breastfeeding. They visited me every day & spent hours watching & helping me feed baby. I was desperate to breastfeed again & was beating myself up about it so without the support I would have given up & been really disappointed with myself. I owe Liz & Rachel a great deal. I've focused on breastfeeding but the general post natal care I received was fantastic. I knew every day who was visiting or who I could call for help. We felt totally supported & cared for until discharge on day 10.

Review of Folkestone Home Birth
28th November 2013

I hadn't even considered a homebirth until my lovely midwife Liz suggested it. I laboured fairly quickly with my first so likely I would with number 2. We were given all the relevant information for home birth and felt very at ease with it all. We observed the thorough preparation Liz made for all the midwifes who may have been on duty when I went into labour. I did labour quickly and although Rachel got here quickly she advised we also phone 999 to get a paramedic here also. They arrived within moments of each other seconds after baby was born into Daddy's arms. The care we then received was absolutely top class. I felt we were cared for in an equal if not superior way to hospital. I cannot recommended more highly having a home birth. Your own environment, towels, cups of tea and bath. Amazing. Second midwife arrived very promptly also. Top, top quality care. Thank you to all the midwifes who made it possible.
